Using Photoshop to Achieve the Perfect Shot

Whilst professional photographers have a lot of training in light, composition, posing, equipment and everything to do with the in-camera capture, what really makes professional photography "pop" is the post processing work done after the image is taken. This is where we correct colours, do colour grading, tweak lighting, remove unwanted items and blemishes and generally polish the image. Some images need very little post processing and other images could have hours spent on them, especially if they are more artistic. I recently posted some images of single dogs in the lane way outside the RSPCA in Noosa. In the photographs the animals were off leash, which prompted people to ask how we could take these photos without the dogs running off. Well let me open up the world of Photoshop to you and let slip a few sneaky secrets of a professional photographer. Of course we couldn't expect these dogs to sit and stay while we took their photographs. You have heard the saying "never work with children and animals". Good advice, as it is rarely easy to take a great photograph of an animal without time, assistance, dedication, perseverance and a smidge of good luck! So we did a little teaking in photoshop afterwards. Here are the before and after images. Without the incredible team at Noosa RSPCA I would not be able to capture the beautiful images we get each week. We have been working together for 2.5 years now and they know exactly what they need to do before I even ask. I am very lucky to have such a great team to assist me.
